Road Trip

It was time to take a break. My wife and I visited my parents in Plumas Pines, and then headed over to Reno, NV for a few days. Here is a self portrait of me during an early morning ride.

Smokey Sunrise

Smoke from a 3-day-old wildfire east of Morgan Hill caused today’s hazy sunrise.

Bad for your health, good for pictures.

Fisheye lens for the fish

I just purchased a 15mm fisheye lens and decided to test it out on my 150 gallon reef tank. The “fisheye” effect gives the appearance the tank bows. It does not.

150 Gallon Salt Water Reef Tank

A little history of the tank. It’s 6 feet long, 20″ deep, and 22″ tall. Empty, the tank holds about 135 gallons of water. In it’s current configuration, between the tank and the sump there are about 150 of salt water. (the total weight of the stand and the tank is about 1500 pounds) The tank was purchased and set up as a reef tank in 1996. In 1998 the tank won first place in the video category of the San Francisco Aquarium Society annual contest. Since I first set up the tank in 1996, I’ve had to tear down the tank and set it back up in different locations 4 times. The fish are the easiest thing to move, the live corals are the hardest to move.

Finally just a little technical info on the picture. My camera was on a tripod so the shot would be as centered as possible. The exposure was 1/40, f/7.1, ISO 250, with 3 Canon flashes inside the hood of the tank slaved with ST-E2 speedlight transmitter.

WPJA Contest Winner

This photo from Stacy & Brad’s Napa wedding in October, placed 10th in the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA.com) 2006 Winter Photo Contest. It was entered in the ceremony category. Stacy and Brad came out from Ohio to be married at their Aunt and Uncle’s private vineyard. The wedding and the location were beautiful. Stacy did an amazing job planning a wedding from 3,000 miles away.
