There is no such thing as a typical San Francisco Bay Area summer thunder storm because they don’t happen very often and usually when they do it doesn’t involve such much lighting. Just photographing this lightning strike and others I witnessed at least 50 lighting bolts during the morning hours on September 13, 2017. For those of you wondering, this image was made on a Canon 5D mark 3 with a Canon 16-35 f4.0 lens at f6.3 for 30 seconds with the zoom at 25 mm and of course on a tripod.
